2011 RELM Recap - Sunshine Cup Day 1
The 2011 RELM team kicked off their tournament play yesterday with 2 games, here's how they did.
The 2011 team started off at 10:00am yesterday morning with a 7-0 loss vs a strong Atlantic Prospects team, despite the score, the squad battled hard and never let up their relentless pressure but just couldn't get any bounces to go their way, and could have won the game as they were forcing turnovers at every turn. This strong team effort would give the team an extra boost for their game later in the afternoon.
At 3:00pm would see the 2011 RELM team back in action, this time against the Florida Wild. The first period the squad would go down 1-0 early but that didn't discourage them as they battled hard and keeping most of the play in the offensive zone but just couldn't squeak one by. The scoreboard would not be changed however until midway through the 3rd period where the Wild would add another one to make the score 2-0. But still, this team had unwavering determination and wouldn't stop trying. Their strong play would be rewarded however as with 2:30 left in the third the team got the monkey off their back and put one in the net to cut the deficit down to 1. Coach Mitch Larabie would make the call to pull the goalie with 1:25 left in the 3rd and all the team needed was just 15 seconds. So, with 1:10 left on the clock the team would net the tying the game and forcing RELM Sports THIRD shootout of the day.
Unfortunately, the sudden death shootout would only last one round with RELM being on the losing end to go down 3-2. But this is just more motivation for the group as coach Christian Tsukamoto said "The team really improved period by period and we're headed in the right direction and we're right there. These two games could've gone either way and tomorrow we'll be back stronger."
The 2011 team gets back in the action today Thursday, July 13th at 10:45am vs Florida Fire.
