2009 RELM Recap - Sunshine Cup Day 1
The 2009 squad played game 1 of the Sunshine Cup yesterday and show great promise for the rest of the tournament.
The 2009 boys with head coach Dave Mullins played the Gladiators at 4:30 yesterday finishing in a 4-1 loss for the squad.
The boys started off strong yesterday taking a 1-0 lead over their opponents in the opening half of the 1st period but would be tied late to end the 1st 1-1. The boys seemed to control most of the game battling hard, with big saves from goaltender Lucas Kahlen, but in the dying seconds of the 2nd period an unfortunate turnover would see the team be down 2-1 to start the 3rd. The boys kept challenging throughout the period and fighting through adversity the boys would surrender a goal shortly after the draw late into the third. With the goalie pulled the team was still battling to get another one but with another unfavourable turnover would see another goal against as the team lost 4-1.
However, as coach Mullins stated "This game was not what the scoreboard said, we just didn't get the bounces going our way this game and it sucks, but that is apart of the game and we're not going to let this affect us and we're going to refresh and regroup for the next one."
The '09s are back in action twice today at 3:30 pm when they take on the Atlantic Prospects and at 8:15 pm against the Florida Wild.
