2009 RELM Recap - Sunshine Cup Day 2
Our 2009 squad was back in action with a double header yesterday. How did they do? Read now to find out!

The 2009 boys would see a pair of games in their second day of Sunshine Cup action with games against the Atlantic Prospects and the Florida Wild. The boys would come out on a slow start going down 1-0 early to a strong Atlantic Prospects team who looked to set the precedent of the game early playing a fast and psychical game. Unfortunately, they would do so, adding a pair of goals to make the score 3-0 before the period would end. The team would try to get something started but the Prospects seemed ready for everything that the boys tried, only giving up 2 shots all game. The Prospects would end up scoring 3 more goals before the final buzzer as the 2009 team lost 6-0.

The boys would not be discouraged by this outcome and used it as motivation as they reset going into RELM's final game of the day. Coach Dave Mullins in his pre-game talk would challenge the squad to get them going out of the gate, he would also go on to tell them "Let's go out there and play our game dictate the pace, push them around and keep the pressure on."

The boys would go on to do just that, they would go up early on the Florida Wild and never looked back. The team would play a gritty psychical game to help them flip the script from the afternoons bout and didn't look to score the pretty goals and would add another tally to end the first 2-0. But 2 wouldn't be enough for the squad as they went out and got another one to make the score 3-0. Still hungry and in the dying seconds of the 2nd period our boys in tie-dye would score the final goal of the game with 30.1 seconds on the clock. Although they wouldn't score in the third they kept the play in the Wild's zone and not let up with massive hits most notably from Jacob Singleton and Mark Duggan. To cap it all off, the boys were rewarded with huge and highlight reel saves and strong play as Lucas Kahlen ended it with a shutout.

The squad will be back in action at 4:30 pm this afternoon as they take on DA Hockey.
